*Seeds:
1 Oregon
2 Georgia
3 Miami
4 BYU
5 Penn State
6 Texas
7 Ohio State
8 Indiana
9 Texas A&M
10 Tennessee
11 Clemson
12 Boise State
*Seeds are not what the teams are ranked. Miami and BYU are not ranked third and fourth in the country. They are the third and fourth seeds due to the top four highest-ranked conference champions being top four seeds and receiving byes. The fifth-highest-ranked conference champion gets a spot in the playoff. Boise State is not ranked 12th in the country.Â
The selection committee should take into consideration that Indiana did not have Kurtis Rourke against Washington and Texas A&M making the quarterback change and the development Mike Elko has done in College Station. Those two teams I believe will be in the top ten next Tuesday in the first iteration of the CFP rankings.Â
I don’t see a two-loss SEC team missing the playoff with their resume. Tennessee and Texas A&M are favored in all but one game as one-loss teams. Their strength of schedule is significantly better than Iowa State, Notre Dame and the ACC teams in contention and they all have better wins. The quality of ACC and Big 12 football is significantly lower compared to the Big Ten and SEC and the committee needs to take that into consideration when they make their decisions for playoff spots.
With UNLV’s loss to Boise State and Navy getting dismantled by Notre Dame, Army and Boise State will be the only two ranked Group of Five teams and have separated themselves from the rest of the pack.
