SMU’s twenty-three-point win against Pitt was worse than the score looked. The Mustangs were up 48-11 late into the fourth quarter before SMU put their backups in. Their only loss came against the Big 12 favorite BYU by three. SMU’s remaining schedule is at home against Boston College and Cal and one road trip to Virginia. They have a good chance of winning out and facing Miami in the ACC title game.
Indiana continues to convincingly beat their opponents. It will be interesting to see where the selection committee places the Hoosiers on Tuesday. I don’t think it is a question if they are in the playoff hunt, but their strength of schedule could weigh them down.
Newcomer: South Carolina
The Gamecocks are 5-3 with two close losses to LSU and Alabama. Their twenty-four-point win against Texas A&M on Saturday catapulted them ahead of Vanderbilt for the final spot in the rankings. South Carolina has a strength of record of 21 and the seventh hardest strength of schedule. With Vanderbilt, Missouri and Clemson left on their schedule, they can continue to climb up the rankings.
