WSU will hire Jimmy Rogers of South Dakota State University to be their next head football coach, according to Ross Dellenger of Yahoo news.
The 37-year old has spent two seasons as the head coach of SDSU after previously serving various roles on their coaching staff including linebackers coach and defensive coordinator. He has been at SDSU either as a player or a coach for 18 of the past 20 years.
In his first season as the Jackrabbits head coach, he led them to an undefeated season and an FCS championship. In 2024, the Jackrabbits went 12-3 and lost in the FCS semifinals, giving him a total record of 27-3 as head coach.
While he is young and somewhat inexperienced, he has shown the potential to be a defensive genius and has succeeded at every step of the way.
According to ESPN Rogers has agreed to a five-year contract to coach the Cougs. He will become the 35th head coach in WSU football history, taking over for Jake Dickert, who recently left WSU for Wake Forest.
