The Spokesman-Review reported that WSU sophomore guard Isaiah Watts will miss several weeks with an injury to his left hand.
The news came just before the Cougars game against Portland and was reported by a team spokesperson.
Watts started six games for the Cougs in 2024 before missing the last three. He started the season off the bench but filled in for the injured Cedric Coward.
The injury opens up more playing time for freshman Tomas Thrastarson, who has started each of the last three games. It also opens up more playing time for ND Okafor and Kase Wynott.
However, it is a blow to the Cougs, who are down to just eight scholarship players remaining. Watts joins Coward, Marcus Wilson and Rihard Vavers on the injured list, which continues to grow.
Another injury would likely be detrimental. Despite starting 11-3, the Cougs are walking on eggshells when it comes to their luck with injuries.
It is unclear how long WSU will be without Watts, but several weeks could mean anything from 15 days to over a month. It is unlikely to see Watts anytime before mid-January, meaning the Cougs will probably be without him when they play Gonzaga on Jan. 11 in Spokane.
