“The twelve wishes of Cougmas”
On the first day of Cougmas, the Cougars asked from me for a QB in 2025.
The Cougs will need a new quarterback in 2025. With John Mateer transferring to Oklahoma, and both Zevi Eckhaus and Evans Chuba also in the portal, Wazzu is at a serious disadvantage under center. Could South Dakota State star Mark Gronowski fill the hole at QB in 2025?
On the second day of Cougmas, the Cougars asked from me, for two new receivers and a QB in 2025.
Kyle Williams and Cooper Mathers are graduating, and the Cougs are also losing Kris Hutson and Carlos Hernandez to the transfer portal. They will need at least two new receivers in 2025.
On the third day of Cougmas, the Cougars asked from me, for three pm kickoffs, two new receivers and a QB in 2025.
Three p.m. kickoffs for WSU football were few and far between in 2024, despite it being the perfect start time for a football game on the Palouse. Less cold, windy night games and more three p.m. kickoffs, please!
On the fourth day of Cougmas the Cougars asked from me, for four more golf victories, three p.m. kickoffs, two new receivers and a QB in 2025.
The WSU men’s and women’s golf teams combined for four individual victories in the fall of 2024, a school record. How about four more for 2025? It would make WSU a top golf school in the country.
On the fifth day of Cougmas the Cougars asked from me, for five Quad two wins, four more golf victories, three p.m. kickoffs, two new receivers and a QB in 2025.
The Cougs already boast three quad two wins in men’s basketball, against Northern Iowa, Bradley and Boise State. How about two more, against Saint Mary’s and San Francisco? It would go a long way for the Cougars NCAA tournament hopes!
On the sixth day of Cougmas the Cougars asked from me, for six wins at GESA, five Quad two wins, four more golf victories, three p.m. kickoffs, two new receivers and a QB in 2025.
The Cougars went 5-1 at GESA field in 2024. Could they pull off the clean sweep at home and go 6-0 in 2025? The Huskies will be their biggest test at home in September.
On the seventh day of Cougmas the Cougars asked from me, for seven runs a game, six wins at GESA, five Quad two wins, four more golf victories, three p.m. kickoffs, two new receivers and a QB in 2025.Â
In baseball, it’s all about scoring runs. Last year the Cougars had a high scoring offense and in 2025, they will hope to do the same. Scoring seven runs a game gives WSU an opportunity to win every game they play.
On the eighth day of Cougmas the Cougars asked from me, for eight football coaches, seven runs a game, six wins at GESA, five Quad two wins, four more golf victories, three p.m. kickoffs, two new receivers and a QB in 2025.
The Cougars have lost eight football coaches this offseason, including four to Wake Forest, two to Oklahoma, one to Utah and one who was fired. That leaves an entirely open coaching staff to be filled for 2025. They have already gotten started, bringing in Jimmy Rogers from South Dakota State to be their new head coach. There are more gaps to be filled soon.
On the ninth day of Cougmas the Cougars asked from me, for nine healthy hoopers, eight football coaches, seven runs a game, six wins at GESA, five Quad two wins, four more golf victories, three p.m. kickoffs, two new receivers and a QB in 2025.
As of now, the Wazzu men’s basketball team has just eight healthy players. A nice Christmas gift would be for Isaiah Watts to heal as soon as possible. The Cougars will need nine healthy hoopers if they are going to make a deep run this season, so getting Watts healthy is huge, and preventing other injuries will be equally important.
Because of the transfer portal, and the number of seniors on the Wazzu defense, only one starter on defense is set to return to the Cougs in 2025. That means the team needs to hit the transfer portal and start recruiting. They have found success there before, they can do it again. Many will likely come from SDSU, following their old coach.
On the eleventh day of Cougmas the Cougars asked from me, for eleven million dollars, ten transfers on defense, nine healthy hoopers, eight football coaches, seven runs a game, six wins at GESA, five Quad two wins, four more golf victories, three p.m. kickoffs, two new receivers and a QB in 2025.
Eleven million dollars…or more. That’s how much the Cougars should hope to get per year in the new PAC-12 media deal, which is expected to be announced sometime this spring. Eight figures per year, per school should be the minimum expectation, and with new schools like Boise State and Gonzaga joining the fray, it could be even more.
On the twelfth day of Cougmas the Cougars asked from me, for twelve schools in the PAC, eleven million dollars, ten transfers on defense, nine healthy hoopers, eight football coaches, seven runs a game, six wins at GESA, five Quad two wins, four more golf victories, three p.m. kickoffs, two new receivers and a QB in 2025.
Twelve schools in the PAC-12 would be a great final gift to WSU in 2025. It’s already back up to eight schools, after being nearly completely decimated in 2023. Could the PAC-12 reach an agreement with AAC powerhouses Memphis and Tulane? Could Texas State still be on the table? What about growing west coast power UNLV? The PAC-12 may still have expansion yet to do.
