Pullman Police Chief Jake Opgenorth is facing allegations of sexual assault and domestic violence, according to The Spokesman-Review.
Citing these allegations, a protective order petition was filed in Whitman County Superior Court and brought against Opgenorth on Dec. 20. The order was filed on behalf of a woman who had worked with Opgenorth on the Pullman Police Advisory Committee, according to the order.
Pending an investigation, Opgenorth surrendered 12 guns and a box of 14 knives to Undersheriff Chris Chapman on Dec. 20, the same day the protection order was granted, according to KIRO 7.
Washington State Patrol is currently investigating the allegations. Commander Aaron Breshears is set to serve as acting chief.
“The City is aware of the ongoing Washington State Patrol investigation, as well as the civil protection order petition filed against Chief Opgenorth,” Mayor Benjamin said in a statement. “[The city is] fully committed to cooperating with the investigation.”
