WSU has phased in new temporary CougarCards at all card kiosks locations.
The changes come from Housing and Residence Life, ASIS and the CougarCard Center. The implementation of the new cards took place over winter break.
Griffin Hogan, assistant director of housing operations, said the new design, black with grey chevrons pointing to the right side, is designed to make it easier for students to return cards to the kiosks.
The new card return policy has also been changed. Students will now have two weeks, instead of the end of the semester, to return their card before a permanent $20 charge is added to their account.
Students will still have 72 hours to return the card before it deactivates.
Hogan said the reason for the new return policy is because students were not returning the temporary cards. At one point, there were around 500 checked-out temporary cards.
Along with these updates, 15 new temporary card kiosks will be installed so all residence halls have kiosks, said CougarCard Center manager Aly Heinrich.
Temporary cards help students access their rooms and dining halls. The residence halls that do not have keycards to access rooms include Rogers, Orton, Gannon-Goldsworthy, Stephenson, Streit-Perham, Scott-Coman, Regents and McEachern.
