It is time for WSU’s bi-annual family weekend, a long-awaited WSU celebration commemorating Coug culture, community and art. There are many events to choose from this weekend, so check out this list to learn more.
Spring Family Weekend Arts & Crafts Fair
Where: Beasley Coliseum
When: 10 a.m.– 9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.– 4 p.m. Saturday
What: Local vendors will be selling handmade crafts such as pottery, textiles, artwork, vintage, home decor and jewelry.
Master of Fine Arts Thesis Exhibition Artist talk and Reception
Where: Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art
When: 3–6 p.m. Friday
What: Graduate candidates Abigail Nnaji, Anna Le, Cameron Kester and Sara St. Clair will be introducing their works featured in the Master of Fine Arts and Thesis Exhibition from 3–4 p.m. An opening reception will be held from 4–6 p.m. The exhibition is open to the public for free.
WSU Drag Show
Where: CUB Senior Ballroom
When: 9 p.m. Friday
What: The Student Entertainment Board is hosting a drag show featuring host Aquasha DeLusty and performers from Hawaii’s So Obsessed!: Anna Mei, Eden Simon, Kalista Fox, Omnia Nova, Water Melone and Kamulani. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the show runs from 9–11 p.m. Tickets are free for WSU students and $10 for general admission. Seats are first come first serve.
CLUE
Where: Wadleigh Theater, inside Daggy Hall on WSU campus
When: 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday
What: STAGE Student Theatre presents the mystery/comedy play “Clue,” adapted from the film by Sandy Rustin, and based on the board game. Follow a group of clumsy house guests as they unravel “Who done it?” in Boddy Manor. Admission is free to the public.
Jane Eyre
Where: Bryan Hall Auditorium
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday
What: The School of Music presents the musical Jane Eyre, based on the book by Charlotte Bronte, directed by Julie Anne Wieck and conducted by Dr. Dan Pham. The plot follows a young orphan whose strong willpower, faith and love lead her on a journey of self-discovery and success. Admission is $10 for WSU students and $15 for general admission. Tickets will be sold at the door an hour before the show.
42nd Annual AMDT Fashion Show
Where: Beasley Coliseum
When: 5–9 p.m. Friday
What: WSU’s Apparel, Merchandising, Design and Textiles department is featuring its 42nd student-produced fashion show themed “Metanoia.” The show will start at 7 p.m., following the wine & beer garden auction from 5–7 p.m. Tickets are $20 pre-show, $30 at the door and $60 VIP.
¡Herencia! A Celebration of Mexican Music and Dance
Where: Kimbrough Music Building
When: 11 a.m.–1 p.m. Saturday
What: WSU music groups Mariachi Leones del Monte, Ballet Folklórico and Grupo Cougs will be performing for free. The event is sponsored by Washington State Magazine and the School of Music.
Eid al-Fitr Bazar: A Cultural Celebration for all
Where: CUB Junior Ballroom
When: 4:30–8 p.m. Saturday
What: The Muslim Student Association is hosting a cultural showcase for the holiday Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan. The event is open to everyone and features an array of performances and dishes from around the globe. RSVP
Comedian Chris Distefano at Beasley Coliseum
Where: Beasley Coliseum
When: 7:30–9:30 p.m. Saturday
What: Comedian Chris Distefano, a well-recognized stand-up artist, and the first to sell out Madison Square Garden’s theater and Radio City Hall, is performing this weekend at Beasley Coliseum. Tickets for WSU staff, students and employees are $47 and general admission for adults is $52.
Veterinary Medicine Open House & Teddy Bear Clinic
Where: Veterinary Teaching Hospital
When: 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Saturday
What: The College of Veterinary Medicine’s annual open house invites families to bring their children to scrub in with veterinary students on stuffed animals.
