Readers react to an article about a screenshot of a private Facebook post shared on social media. The screenshot depicted a message about a Theta Xi date dash and contained sexist remarks, referencing women as “hoes” and “bitches,” as well as comments about the weight of some sorority members. The post was widely condemned by social media users.
Xyan Neider: “While not ‘illegal’ or I’m sure not against any university policy, I think it is way past time to hold young men (and women) accountable for distasteful, discriminating, and disrespectful behaviors. If it isn’t called out at some earlier point, people continue thinking it is fine and a-OK, then there’s another [Weinstein] or Roy Moore issue happening. I’d like to think and hope Coug men (and women) are better than that.”
Courtney Richards: “Everyone is so busy being offended. Just don’t go to their parties. Get the hell over it. My God, I see no need for disciplinary actions.”
Rochelle Davis Barcellona: “That’s the point of the #MeToo movement. This behavior has been accepted as the norm for too long. It is beyond time to do something about it. Those who know about it and do nothing are complicit in the perpetuation of it.”
Jason Mohr: “From what I saw back in the day, most of the frats have always facilitated rape culture. Looks like he got caught being honest.”
Damen Aubrey Jeg: “I would bet money that even sororities have private pages with posts just as crude and inappropriate. These are young adults people, this shit happens.”
