Golf heads back to the Golden State

From staff reports

It’s back to California for the Washington State men’s golf team.

Two weeks after a great showing at their home course, Palouse Ridge, the squad travels to Fairfax to participate in the Alister MacKenzie Invitational at the Meadow Club. The match will start Monday, with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m., and will wrap up on Tuesday.

Cal will host the 16-team field, and Arizona State, Colorado, and Oregon State will represent the Pac-12 as well. The match will be played at Meadow club, a par-71, 6,734-yard course.

Freshman Brian Mogg and sophomore Nick Mandell will be making their first starts for the team this season. Head Coach Garrett Clegg said he is excited to see Mogg make his first start as a freshman. He said it will be a great test to see where the Cougars are as a team and how they can compete.

Also competing for Washington State will be Derek Bayley, Evan Omelia, and Sang Lee — who won the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate two weeks ago in Pullman.

So far, it’s been a solid year for the Cougs, placing third, 10th, and fourth in three respective matches this year. The team will look to continue an upward trend this week in California.

Each day, live results can be accessed at golfstat.com. Tournament results will also be posted at wsucougars.com, at the end of each day of the competition.
