WSU basketball fought hard to end its seven-game losing streak, beating the University of Colorado 73-69.

Colorado came out in a full-court press, but fell back to a man-to-man after WSU handled it well and knocked down shots.

The Cougars’ zone defense put pressure on Colorado’s half-court offense, but they got hurt in transition as the Buffaloes beat them down the floor and capitalized on fast breaks.

The Buffaloes came out in the second half determined to get the ball inside and stayed away from the long ball, as freshman center Dallas Walton had an impressive second half. Walton tallied 16 points and five rebounds on the night, shooting 8-8 from the free throw line.

The Cougars hung in there for the rest of the game, but had a hard time shooting. Hoisting up 29 threes, they were only able to convert on seven. Despite being WSU’s go-to shooter, sophomore Carter Skaggs could not get anything to fall, going 0-6 from beyond the three-point line.

Late in the half the momentum shifted and WSU made a run. Junior guard Viont’e Daniels nailed a corner three, and a layup from junior forward Robert Franks on the ensuing possession gave the Cougars a one-point lead with two minutes left.

The Cougar defense got the job done down the stretch, not giving Colorado a single good look on their last two possessions. Flynn had 30 points and five rebounds on the night, including a free throw near the end to put the game out of reach.
