Sheriff’s Office seeks reserve officers
August 31, 2018
The Whitman County Sheriff’s Office is looking for volunteers for their Reserve Deputy training program, which is scheduled to run from November through April.
The program is good for anyone who wants to serve their community, said Whitman County Sheriff Brett Myers.
“We’ve had people who are farmers,” he said. “We had someone who was a reserve here over 15 years that was a teacher, we have students.”
It can also be a good place to start for those interested in a law enforcement career, Myers said.
“Being able to get that real-world experience helps,” he said. “It’s enough to get that first job.”
The training is done locally, but is monitored by the state.
“It’s not the full academy,” Myers said, “[but] it is recognized by the state.”
