An array of KZUU 90.7 FM disc jockeys, Phi Delta Theta members, and friends of the radio station will throw Pullman’s first Bass Fest: Tropical Breeze at 8 p.m. tonight at Phi Delta Theta’s fraternity.

Bass Fest, a tropical-themed fundraiser for music festival “Kazzuzapalousa,” will take place in April. The festival will be a one-day showcase of underground bands from different cities across the state of Washington.

Kazzuzapalousa will include a wide variety of genres including hip-hop, electronic, independent music, and heavier rock artists, said KZUU DJ Katherine Britton. A minimum of 10 bands will perform at the festival.

Kazzuzapalousa was created as the first of what KZUU members anticipate to be an annual series of events. Pullman has seen a handful of other similar festivals, but this is the first of its kind entirely supported by KZUU, said Jasmine Albertson, KZUU general manager.

Izak Kam, a Phi Delta Theta house member and KZUU host, leads the Bass Fest Facebook advertising campaign. He said the event is not exclusive to the Greek Community or KZUU listeners and includes a campus wide invitation.

Freshman Briana Howard said she was excited to hear about the open party invite and appreciated that it supports local artists.

“It’s a happy surprise,” she said. “I’m glad they’re doing this for donations.”

Bass Fest DJs include DJ Overcast, Saffron City, Nick G. & Ian, and DJ Bdirdy. 

Wristbands for admittance to Bass Fest are $3. Tropical clothing is encouraged but not required.
