The Daily Evergreen staff won three regional awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, including Best All-Around Daily Student Newspaper, and placed as finalists in four other categories.

In addition to best newspaper, the Evergreen took first place in the Region 10 Mark of Excellence Awards for Nick Sandifer’s editorial cartooning and a photo illustration by Andrew Lang. Staff members took finalist slots in breaking news reporting, general news photography, editorial writing and general column writing.

Region 10 includes Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Montana and Alaska. Winners will compete nationally among the other winners from the SPJ’s 12 regions.

Multiple WSU students working outside the Evergreen also won SPJ awards for reporting in print, online, television and radio.
