Women’s golf competes in final tourney before Pac-12 Championships
Cougars head to California to take part in Silverado Showdown
April 4, 2019
WSU women’s golf will travel to Silicon Valley, California, this Sunday through Tuesday to compete in the Silverado Showdown hosted by Colorado and Oregon.
One round will be played each day during the three-day tournament, and ten teams will compete, including No. 1 USC, No. 16 Northwestern and No. 25 Washington, from all over the country.
Head Coach Kelli Kamimura said this is just another tune-up tournament for the team before Pac-12 Championships April 15-17.
“It’s been nice with the weather cooperating to really go out and prepare the way that we would like to before an event,” Kamimura said.
The Cougars earned eighth place during their last outing at the Juli Inkster Invitational March 18-19. The team finished with a final score of 886 (+22).
Leading the way for the Cougars was senior Madison Odiorne who finished with a score of 217 (+1) to tie for eighth overall.
Freshman Amy Chu also shot a 228 (+12) to finish in a tie for 46th. Chu said she is looking to keep improving as the season comes to a close.
“Looking at my stats from the last three tournaments,” Chu said. “I just need to be dialing in drills and be more competitive within myself.”
This is the final tournament for the Cougars to work on their weaknesses before they compete in the Pac-12 Championships.
The three-round Silverado Showdown will yield plenty of short game opportunities, which has been an emphasis for Kamimura since the beginning of the season.
“We’ve been able to make some equipment changes,” Kamimura said, “and we’ve been able to go back and look at the stats from the first couple events and adjust for the last two tournaments of the season.”
The event will be held at the Silverado Country Club, a par-72, 6,192-yard course. Live results from each day of competition will be posted at results.golfstat.com.
