The Next Page of The Sports Page

The owner of downtown Pullman’s sports bar is in the process of turning a page with her establishment.
Diane Boles, owner of The Next Page (formerly The Sports Page), is turning the bar into Pullman’s first wine shop. Boles said wine has been her passion for a long time and after noticing Pullman’s lack of retail shops, she saw an opportunity and bought the bar in September of last year.
“There isn’t a wine shop in town … it’s always kind of been a goal for me to have a wine shop,” she said.
Boles said the shop will also sell food, though not what most sports bar patrons are used to. The fare will be lighter and healthier than what is currently on the menu, and the fryer will go away.
“I would like meats, cheeses, great salads and antipasto plates,” Boles said.
Once the shop is opened, she said the bar will no longer serve hard alcohol and will instead focus on wine and beer.
Boles said she is already starting to sell wine and even held an invite-only wine event right before Christmas, where people came and ordered cases of wine based on what they tasted.
As she is already starting to sell wine, Boles said she mainly needs to finish remodeling the building to be more accommodating of The Next Page’s new purpose. She has already begun changes on the outside of the building, like removing the awning, but is waiting for spring to finish other things.
After she completes the outside, Boles said she is going to replace the windows and work on the floors. Boles said she wants to take down the full ceiling on the wine shop side of the building and open it up to give it a more industrial look. She also wants the walls to be brick but said that will depend on what is under the current paneling.
Boles hopes The Next Page will be a spot for everyone in Pullman, but she is still getting the word out about the current and future changes.
“A lot of people don’t know about it, and I think they’re waiting for it to change all the way inside before they come in,” Boles said. “But I have a few couples that come in, and they do order a bottle and sit and have wine.”
