Among the many considerations when choosing a new place to live, students should account for how much partying they want in their lives.

It is spring semester and many first year WSU students are planning to move out of their dorms and into an apartment. They will consider different factors like price, roommates and location amongst other things.

One unique factor that may influence a student’s decision is the amount of partying that occurs in an apartment complex. Note that the partying level at an apartment complex will change and may not stay constant over time.

Dictionary.com defines a party as a social gathering, as of invited guests at a private home, for conversation, refreshments, entertainment, etc.

Many can agree with this definition of a party, but different people have different definitions of a “fun” party, or, as many now say, a “lit” party.

We asked WSU students which apartment complex is the best for partying. Most students didn’t mind answering but asked to remain anonymous or have their names switched to protect their identity.

Andy, currently a senior, said the best parties he has been to were at Campus Commons, Cougar Crest and Maple Valley.

Campus Commons apartments are located at 1920 NE Terre View Drive, Cougar Crest apartments are on 2055 NE Skyview Drive and Maple Valley apartments are located at 2290 NE Westwood Dr.

“Their music is good, there are some sorts of lights that give the place a club feel and less neighbor complaints,” Andy said. “As long as the music is playing and people are socializing, I have a good time.”

In addition, Andy experienced some not-so-fun parties. Jake said he uses his bad party experiences as a reference to evaluate how lit a party is.

“I went to a party once and the music cut out,” Jake said. “We had to find someone else to play some music. The host of the party eventually got overwhelmed with how many people were there that he decided to shut down the party.”

Francisco, currently in his second year attending WSU, said he has had the most fun at parties from Cougar Crest.

“I have gone to parties (at) Campus Commons, Boulder Creek and SummerHill, but none of them compare to Cougar Crest,” Francisco said. “The apartments at Cougar Crest are much bigger, which in return create an ideal place to throw a party.”

SummerHill apartments, which are located on 1545 NE Merman Drive, has two-bedroom, 820-square-foot units. Boulder Creek, which is located on 1915 NE Terre View Drive, also has two-bedroom, 820-square-foot units and three-bedroom, 996-square-foot units.

Cougar Crest, on the other hand, has 1,260-square-foot floor plans. Some are four-bedroom plans while others have three bedrooms. That is 440 square feet more than an 820-square-foot SummerHill unit and 264 square feet more than the 996-square-foot Boulder Creek unit

“I always have a good time at Cougar Crest,” Francisco said. “I always see familiar faces when I go to those parties and there is always something memorable that happens.”
