West Coast is catching the Eastern teams in the world of sports

Editor:

As a response to the article “East coast teams struggling to exert dominance,” I’d like to say that the East Coast has dominated the sporting world for quite some time. Fortunately, for us lowly and humble West Coaster’s, it’s not so farfetched to say that the West is catching up.

Take a look at the major sporting leagues around our country. In the NFL the worst division and laughing stock of the league is undoubtedly the National Football Conference East, which is home to ‘America’s Team’ the Dallas Cowboys, who haven’t been relevant in a competitive sense in almost a decade. In contrast, the toughest and most respected divisions are the NFC West and American Football Conference West. So far in this current National Basketball Association season, the Eastern Conference has only two teams, the Pacers and Heat, above a .500 winning percentage. However, in the Western Conference there are a total of 10 teams with a winning percentage higher than .500.

At the collegiate level, the Southeastern Conference, America’s ‘pride and joy’ when it comes to collegiate football, has hit a few speed bumps this year as well. The lack of pure dominance by the SEC seen in recent past may be giving critics plenty of room to speculate whether a very strong Pac-12 Conference may just be catching up.

With that being said, I think it is safe to say I will always have one bias of my own, and that is simply the hope that the Oregon Ducks lose every single sporting event real and imaginary. Go Cougs!
