Ice cream is always a good idea, and Ferdinand’s ice cream is the best idea. Made by WSU students, it’s delicious and the perfect way too cool off from a hot Pullman summer day.
2. Have breakfast at The Old European Restaurant
The Old European serves tasty Germanic food in addition to the traditional American breakfast options. A personal favorite is the buckwheat pancakes, topped with bananas and whipped cream.
4. Hike Kamiak Butte or Palouse Falls

The rolling hills of the Palouse may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but the beauty seen from the top of Kamiak Butte cannot be disputed. Palouse Falls also shows a nice side to the hills.
5. Bike the Bill Chipman Palouse Trail to Moscow
Bike rides present many opportunities: they are great exercise and an active way to get from Point A to Point B. Take a leisurely trip to Moscow to grab a bite to eat.
6. Cafe crawl through the Palouse

Pullman and Moscow have a glorious amount of coffee shops, each offering a different atmosphere. What better way to see which one has the right feel for your study and coffee habits than trying them out one by one?
7. Make a trip to Spokane
Pullman is a small town, and Moscow’s mall doesn’t have all that many stores. If you want a taste of a larger city and need to do some serious shopping, Spokane might be an option for a day or weekend trip.
8. Go swimming at the Dunes
{{tncms-asset app=”editorial” id=”166539b4-27b4-11e6-a746-0bee8e292ecd”}}
The Illia Dunes: the famed swimming and summer watering hole. If you haven’t been, it’s time to make the trip. Bring a swim suit, bring some friends and have a grand old time.
9. Visit the Artisans at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown
If you love art, the Artisans at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown will be worth the drive. The barn hosts galleries and work stations for artists from all over the area.
10. Go thrift shopping
Pullman and Moscow have quite a few thrift shops between them. Instead of buying all your apartment supplies new, check out the thrift shops for an inexpensive and vintage alternative.
11. Stop by Retro Riot
{{tncms-asset app=”editorial” id=”e2b84d62-27b4-11e6-964d-971c8f96a5c4″}}
Retro Riot is a new entertainment store in downtown Pullman with books, records, CDs, board and card games, puzzles and more. If you’re looking for something to do, look no further.
12. Grab some sweets at Palouse Country Candy
{{tncms-asset app=”editorial” id=”3f4426f6-27b4-11e6-bfd6-db2a328d2b92″}}
Palouse Country Candy has a wide variety of locally made candies, including fudge, brownies, chocolates and jelly beans. The candy is all locally made and tastes fantastic.
13. Go stargazing
The Palouse is perfect for stargazing; there are no city lights to take away from their celestial beauty. Summer nights allow for the perfect cuddle weather under the stars.
14. Have a lunch date in the park
Picnics can really make it feel like summer. Reaney Park is a nice breezy spot to have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and lounge in the grass. Pullman has several parks, including Reaney Park, Sunnyside Park and Kruegel Park, and there is even one for your dogs: Pooch Park at Pullman.
15. Visit the Pullman and Moscow farmers markets
{{tncms-asset app=”editorial” id=”048d220a-27b5-11e6-b381-7bcfb634b4d6″}}
We are surrounded by farmland here on the Palouse, and the fruit of that farming labor is available to us at the Pullman and Moscow farmers markets.
16. Have a date night at the Cougar Entertainment Center
Nothing like shooting lasers at each other to really set the mood. The Cougar Entertainment Center is a great date spot, with laser tag, mini golf and arcade games to fuel your competitive fires. Read about the editor-in-chief’s date experience at the Cougar Entertainment Center here.
17. Pet the cats and dogs at the Whitman County Humane Society
One of the greatest woes of college is being away from your pets from home. Get your kitty and puppy fix at the humane society and give those lonely pets some much-needed love.
18. Go to the Moscow Artwalk
Artistss from all around the area will come together for the 12th year to give the community a chance to view and purchase local art. The Moscow Artwalk starts June 17.
19. Go see a play
There are several theaters in the area with plays showing this summer, including “Seussical the Musical!” July 15 – 24 through the Pullman Civic Theatre and “13 the Musical” July 16 – 17 through the Regional Theatre of the Palouse.
20. Have a barbecue
A burger and some hot dogs really make it feel like summer. Get some friends together, grab some supplies and have an evening of good food and good laughs to set the mood for the rest of summer.
