Dear Reader,

Hello and welcome to Ask Emma! If you’re reading this, perhaps you’re asking yourself, “does The Daily Evergreen run advice columns now?” 

Why, I am so glad you asked. I’ll consider that my first question to answer. Yes, we do, and my advice to you is to write in with any burning questions, quandaries or queries you may have. 

My name is Emma Ledbetter and I am a sophomore studying microbiology here at WSU. I can’t say I expected to still be working at The Daily Evergreen almost two full years after I started — especially given that I am not a journalism student — but I love my job and wouldn’t trade it for the world. 

I can’t pretend to have the expertise of “Ask Abby,” but I do promise to do my research and answer your questions in a way that is fair and well-informed. 

No question is off-limits — but please don’t send me something you wouldn’t want your mother or your boss to see. Keep it appropriate, people. 

In this time of social distancing and self-isolation, my fellow Evergreeners and I are working remotely. In order to submit a question, please don’t mail it to our newsroom in Murrow Hall. Instead, email [email protected] and we will be notified instantly. Magical, isn’t it?

Lastly, here is some unsolicited advice (although, is it really unsolicited if you are voluntarily reading an advice column?). 

The weather may be getting warmer, but that doesn’t mean you should be planning any exotic vacations. Gov. Inslee’s stay-at-home order is still in place, so I advise you to take that to heart and find fun ways to pass the time in the comfort of your own home and neighborhood. 

Personally, I enjoy taking walks and exploring Pullman while remaining six feet away from my walking companion. 

Think outside the box. Now is a great time to write the novel you’ve been meaning to start for years, learn a new craft or celebrate quarantine Christmas. I believe in you and your creativity!
