A new case of COVID-19 was diagnosed in Whitman County on Thursday, which brings the number of confirmed cases to 17.

The patient is a 20-39-year-old female, according to a press release from the Whitman County Emergency Operations Center. She is stable and isolating at home.

Health officials are working to identify the individual’s close contacts, according to the press release.

Whitman County submitted a Phase 2 variance waiver Wednesday, which if approved, would allow certain businesses in the county to re-open.

Troy Henderson, director of Whitman County Public Health, said he briefed the Washington State Secretary of Health on the new case Thursday morning.

Henderson said there is no reason to believe one new case will cause Whitman County’s Phase 2 waiver to be denied.

At least 805 people have tested negative for the virus, according to the Whitman County Health Department website.
