Women’s golf struggles in tough Wildcat Invitational field

The perfect spring break destination also provided the perfect setting for a couple rounds of golf for the WSU women’s golf team.

The Cougars finished 14th overall at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational last week at Sewailo Golf Club in Tucson, Arizona.

The Cougars went 47-over (910) at the two-day, three-round tournament, just a stroke ahead of last place No. 24 New Mexico. Senior Monica Huang tied for 25th as an individual with a 6-over (222), her second top 25 finish of the season.

The host-team No. 12 Arizona Wildcats won the tournament at 7-under (857), 11 strokes ahead of second place No. 13 Arizona State. Sophomore Krystal Quihuis led the Wildcats with a three-round score of 209 (-7).

WSU sophomore Alivia Brown finished the invitational with a 229 (+13) to tie for 52nd place. Brown’s started strong with an opening round 74 (+2), tying with teammate Huang.

Sophomore BreeLin Wanderscheid shot 16-over (232) to finish 65th overall.

Junior Cherokee Kim and freshman Madison Odiorne tied for 66th, as both shot 17-over (233).

The Cougars will tee it up at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic, April 3 and 4 at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Course in Maricopa, Arizona.
