Forty-nine individuals tested positive for COVID-19 since Friday, bringing Whitman County’s total to 1,403 cases. 

Of the new patients, 10 females and 11 males are aged 1-19 years, according to a press release from the Whitman County Emergency Operations Center. Nineteen patients are aged 20-39 years, nine are female and 10 are male. Two patients are females aged 40-59 years. Four patients are aged 60-79 years, two are female and two are male. One female and two males are aged over 80 years. 

Two patients are currently in the hospital, and all others are stable and self-isolating, according to the release. 

As of Saturday, 31.8 percent of the county’s cases were individuals aged 1-19 years and 62.5 percent were aged 20-39 years, according to the release. This means over 93 percent of the county’s COVID-19 cases were contracted by individuals under 40 years old. 

There have been several outbreaks in the county, according to the press release. One-hundred-seven patients contracted COVID-19 in WSU’s Greek Housing. Twenty-two patients contracted it in the dorms.

There were also 18 cases confirmed in six different long-term care facilities and five cases were confirmed in an unspecified school, according to the release. 

Residents are reminded to wear masks, practice social distancing and avoid large gatherings.
