WSU swimming competes in California, comes away with sweep of SDSU, UNM

Victory was not isolated to the Palouse this weekend as Cougar athletics found success as far south as California.
The WSU swim team competed in San Diego this weekend at the Aztec Aquaplex where they swept San Diego State and New Mexico.
The Cougars went into the meet ranked 32nd in the nation on collegeswimming.com. They are now ranked 30th.
The final score against SDSU came out to 161.5-132.5 and the final score against the UNM Lobos came out to 195-93.
Several Cougars broke into the top-ten times for Washington State with their finishes this weekend.
The Cougars kicked off the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay. The wins continued in the 1000 freestyle when junior Kendra Griffin finished in first with a time of 10 minutes, 16.07 seconds, the 10th fastest time in WSU history.
Griffin also claimed the win in the 500 freestyle with a final time of 5:01.49.
WSU swimmers would be the first to touch the wall in the next four races, including wins by senior Presley Wetterstrom, freshman Jasmine Margetts and junior Addisynn Bursch.
Wetterstrom now leads the Cougars in victories this season with six after winning two breaststroke events this. She obtained the seventh best time in WSU history with a 2:15.79 finish in the 200 butterfly.
Senior Taylor Johnson of San Diego State was the first to claim a win for the Aztecs. She won the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.15. She was followed by Cougar sophomore Hannah Bruggman, who finished a mere .57 seconds later.
WSU junior Elise Locke finished the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:01.15. Not only was this a season-best time for Locke, it was also the fifth fastest in Washington State history.
Margetts also raced her way into the WSU top-10 lists. She finished with a time of 2:03.35 in the 200 individual medley, just .1 second behind Bursch. It was the eighth fastest in WSU history.
Margetts also set an Aztec Aquaplex record with her 1:59.29 performance in the 200 backstroke.
The last race of the day brought a final win to the Atzecs when they finished the 200 free relay in 1:33.07. The Lobos finished in second with a time of 1:34.36.
WSU will journey to Ohio on Nov. 20 for the Ohio State Invitational.
