The Cougars lost Saturday at San Francisco, marking their fourth straight loss.
WSU was mostly uncompetitive in what turned into a big loss. WSU star Nate Calmese was sick, and did not play for most of the second half. He later revealed he had not eaten in the two days leading up to the game.
The Cougs fall to 15-9, and are now 2-6 in their last eight. Any hopes of an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament have been shattered during the four-game losing streak, so the Cougars’ attention now turns to the West Coast Conference tournament to sneak in.
Meanwhile, WSU still has eight games on the season, and will not want to go down quietly. They’ve fallen into seventh place in the WCC, not the ideal situation, but at 5-6 in the conference, it is not a hole they can not dig themselves out of.
The Cougars stay on the road on Thursday when they will travel to Corvallis to square off their Pac-12 rivals, the Beavers.
