North Central High School closed out a tight 62-57 victory against Pullman High School Friday, despite senior Daniel Kwon scoring 23 points.
North Central started the game on a 10-1 run and never looked back.
Senior forward Makai Daniels scored 29 of the Wolfpacks’ 62 points on a night where the Pullman offense could not get it going.
Out of the gate, North Central scored the first eight points by speeding the game up and scoring in transition. When the game slowed down, Pullman could not get an offensive rebound and struggled to slow down North Central in the paint. The Greyhounds were only down 35-27 at halftime because of sophomore Vaughn Holstad’s strong 10-point start.
Pullman struggled with spacing the floor on offense and had stagnant possessions where the guards on the wing were watching sophomore forward Gavyn Dealy work on the block.
The Greyhounds only had three bench points, created by a tough and-one by sophomore guard Ryan Ha.
Kwon started driving to the rim and finishing with more aggression in the fourth quarter, when 14 of his 23 points came in the final eight minutes of the game.
With that loss, it is most likely that Pullman will be the two-seed in the district tournament. The Greyhounds play Tuesday at Rogers High School at 7 p.m. before returning home for senior night next Friday against East Valley.
