Pullman Police Department investigates alleged rape

From staff reports

The Pullman Police Department is investigating an alleged rape that reportedly occurred over the weekend.

The reporting party, a 21-year-old female, told police she was at a party on Friday, Aug. 21, and later left with the suspect, a 21-year-old male.

The male lists a fraternity address on his WSU account, according to Pullman Police Cmdr. Chris Tennant. At this time in the investigation, Tennant said the police will not release the fraternity the suspect may or may not be affiliated with based on the address listed on his WSU account.

There is no indication or evidence at this point in the investigation that the alleged rape took place at a fraternity.

Tennant confirmed that alcohol was involved, but it is unclear what role, if any, that alcohol directly played in the sexual contact that took place.

The woman told police that she did not consent to the sexual contact, Tennant said.

As of Monday morning the woman had not taken a forensic evidence collection kit, commonly referred to as a rape kit, Tennant said. He said it was strongly suggested to the woman by the police that she have an evidence collection kit performed.

The investigation has been turned over to detectives, Tennant said.
