Art off the beaten path

Staff Reports

For students staying in Pullman over Spring Break, a visit to the Artisans at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown could be the perfect way to spend an afternoon.

The art barn’s most recent exhibit, An Epoch Retrospective, is open through March 29, and features the work of Junette Dahmen and Kay Montgomery.

Both artists make collages and watercolors, presenting a unique collection of colors and textures, said Julie Hartwig, exhibit coordinator at the art barn.

“The texture of the paintings is really unique,” Hartwig said. “For example, Kay (Montgomery) has a piece that has glitter added, it is more than paper thrown on canvas.”

One piece Dahmen made, Mermaid Treasures, really stood out to Hartwig. Dahmen took old paintings she didn’t like and cut them into strips. She made a collage out of the strips and added netting and shells, creating a unique, collaborative piece, Hartwig said.

Most pieces in An Epoch Retrospective are for sale. The Artisan’s at the Dahmen Barn is open Thursday through Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
