More than 94 percent of the 10,000 WSU employees systemwide are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Nov. 15.

One percent of employees received medical exemptions, and 3 percent received religious exemptions. Two percent of employees started their vaccination process and are on leave until fully vaccinated, according to WSU Insider.

Twenty-three employees are in the process of being fired, according to the article.

Across the five WSU campuses, the vaccination rate for students is over 89 percent. At WSU Pullman, 96 percent of students are fully vaccinated, according to the article.

Phil Weiler, WSU vice president for marketing and communications, said the numbers indicate vaccination mandates work.

“People did the right thing; they got vaccinated, and [employees] continued on with providing a great educational experience for the students,” he said.
