With such crazy weather at the start of the season, Washington State women’s golf has yet to benefit from the climatic conditions. The wind and rain affected play in their previous tournaments and now they hope to play their best as they travel to the West Side to compete in the 31st annual Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational hosted by University of Washington.

The tournament began today at par 72 at the Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish. The club has hosted many prestigious tournaments, including the 2010 U.S. Senior Open.

Competing alongside Washington State and host Washington will be Stanford, UC Davis, California, Oregon, Colorado, San Jose State, UCF, Columbia, Gonzaga, Long Beach State and San Francisco.

Representing WSU is senior Mallory Kent, who led both of the previous tournaments including a win at Washington State’s own Cougar Cup. Accompanying her are juniors Lindsay Harmon and Kristen Rue, sophomores Rachel Lewis and Nani Yanagi and freshman Cherokee Kim.

With a suitable start despite the weather, the team focuses on playing their best to take home a win.

“We had a couple of great practices this week during our time at home and have focused on playing one shot at a time. We look forward to a great tournament,” coach Kelli Kamimura said.

Live scores will be posted on golfstat.com and on The Daily Evergreen sports Twitter page @EvergreenSports.
