James Allsup, former president of the WSU College Republicans, resigned from his position as leader of the club today.

The new president of the club, Amir Rezamond, confirmed his role via phone call, saying Allsup resigned for “various reasons.”

His resignation comes on the heels of a social media firestorm from the university and community leaders and condemnation from former and current members of the College Republican club for his participation in the “Unite the Right” riot in Charlottesville, Virginia.
