Smoke alert in effect until Wednesday
September 4, 2017
The National Weather Service issued an air-quality warning for smoke from fires in Canada and Montana, which will be in effect for the next several days.
The warning predicts the conditions will worsen over the next few days due to wind shifts, and areas close to fires are considered unhealthy. According to the Washington State Department of Ecology smoke blog, a high air pressure system will remain over the state for the rest of the day, keeping the smoke in the lower parts of the atmosphere.
The air-quality warning remains in effect until noon on Wednesday, but the blog warns that fire and air quality can change quickly and conditions should be checked frequently.
The alert warned that children, the elderly and those with respiratory illnesses are at risk for health complications due to smoke.
