ASWSU senators unanimously approved the tech fee proposal for the 2024–25 school year at this week’s senate meeting.
Bryce Becker, department of health and safety director, said the department is planning a sexual health awareness week for the week after spring break.
“We’re gonna take some of the health money that’s in ASWSU accounts and we’re going to pay for STD tests for students that whole week,” Becker said.
Becker said the department is also hoping to plan a sexual assault awareness week later in the semester.
Becker, who is also the chair of the tech fee committee, then presented senators with the tech fee proposal for the upcoming year. The revenues from the tech fee will be used exclusively to fund technology resources for general student use, he said.
“We’re pretty on the dot with that,” Becker said. “We left about $150,000 in the bank next year, with over $1 million in asks.”
The tech fee was unanimously approved. The senate then heard from Senator Anusha Bose, who authored Bill 53-28. The bill was unanimously approved.
Vice President Maccabee Werndorf announced the declaration of candidacy period for ASWSU elections opened on Monday. Any senators who are interested in maintaining their position next year are required to record 50 undergraduate student signatures to officially declare their candidacy. Declarations of candidacy must be submitted by Feb. 5.
Senate Pro-Tempore Tania Henriques then announced that freshman delegate Emerson Gruits has applied for resignation. ASWSU meets at 5:30 p.m. every Wednesday in CUB 204.
