In an effort to promote health and safety on campus, WSU hosted several on-campus events on Sept. 26.
The first two events took place at 10 a.m. at the Glenn Terrell Mall. The first was a resource fair with vendors, such as Whitman County Public Health, WISH Medical and Alternatives to Violence of the Palouse. The second was a blood drive provided by Vitalant, one of the nation’s biggest nonprofit blood health organizations.
The third event was a training seminar on Narcan nasal spray, a lifesaving drug that reverses opioid overdose. It took place at 10 a.m. in the Information Technology Building.
The final event was a President’s Awards Ceremony that took place after the resource fair at 1 p.m. in the Terrell library. A total of seven awards were given out for safety, security and health, and a grand prize was won by Md Monzurul Islam Anoy, a research assistant at the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture.
“[The goal of the expo] is to just promote safety, wellness, security, tell students and faculty and staff what resources are available not only at WSU but in Pullman and even in Moscow,” said Ashlynn Phillips, Chancellor’s office event coordinator.
Phillips said she hopes students utilize resources found at the fair and provided by the university.
“I hope [WSU students] just know what available resources there are, I know there’s a student who just made an eyeglasses appointment with the Moscow Family Eye Clinic down there, so it’s great that they’re just becoming more aware of what’s available to them,” Phillips said.
In addition to the expo, WSU launched a free flu shot event that runs every Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Compton Union Building. Appointments must be made two weeks in advance and the event ends Nov. 1.
