Pullman City Council unanimously voted to confirm Brett Nash as the new Pullman fire chief during their regular meeting Tuesday.
Nash is coming from the Henderson Fire Department out of Nevada, where he had served as battalion chief over the past five years. He is replacing Mike Heston, Pullman’s fire chief of 12 years.
Heston announced his retirement last February. His retirement ceremony is set for 10 a.m. on Feb. 7 at Fire Station 1.
“[Heston] has been one [that has] not only been an exemplary leader within our community as a city employee but also within the community, with Lion’s Club, Boy Scouts and a number of other areas that he has serviced,” Mayor Francis Benjamin said.
Heston, a WSU graduate, has served with the Pullman Fire Department since 1996 and was appointed fire chief in 2013.
Pullman City Council also approved three new electric bus charging stations during the meeting, in addition to the three new electric buses that are arriving this spring.
Pullman currently has three electric buses in service and has space for two more.
The charging stations cost roughly $250,000. This funding comes out of the City’s capital improvement project.
