$4 million creamery addition approved

The WSU Board of Regents met last Thursday and Friday to discuss reports related to improving the campus.

The board approved giving an honorary doctorate degree to Jordan Schnitzer, who has created one of the largest contemporary fine art print collections.

Schnitzer is the president of Harsch Investment Properties and dedicates much of his time to the arts.

His collection is shared all over the country, and his family’s foundation has shown over 90 exhibits from the work in this collection.

Schnitzer has won many awards for his leadership and is involved in the creation and cultivation of a few art museums.

Also discussed in the meeting was the idea of renovating the third floor of the Washington Building. This proposal would house a new location for Counseling and Testing Services as well as Behavioral Health Services.

The rationale behind this is to have all health care services in a single location.

The Board of Regents approved a $4 million dollar extension to the Food and Safety building so it can contain a whey processing room.

The WSU Creamery does not have the resources for processing whey, and must pay to dispose of whey product.

The new addition will give the creamery the ability to make marketable whey products and give experience to students about the process.

The board also noted ASWSU’s “It’s On Cougs!” campaign, and how students are coming together to create a variety of informative activities to help prevent sexual violence.
