Kitten found in hot car, euthanized; police arrest owner

From staff reports

A man was arrested Saturday evening for allegedly leaving three animals in his truck – a circumstance that resulted in the death of kitten.

Marvin H. Mead, 47, was identified as the owner of the truck and charged with second-degree animal cruelty, a gross misdemeanor.

The kitten was found barely breathing, likely due to heat exhaustion, in the vehicle with two dogs. It was euthanized at the WSU veterinary hospital, and Mead was arrested shortly afterward.

The truck was reportedly parked unattended and with its windows rolled up on Paradise Street. Police had received multiple calls throughout the week about Mead leaving animals inside the truck. No harm was done to any of the animals before Saturday.

Mead was booked into the Whitman County Jail.

Pullman Police ask that residents not leave animals inside vehicles for extended periods of time on hot days. They also urge people to call if they see this happening around the city.
