Clean tech building named for PACCAR

FROM STAFF REPORTS

The College of Engineering and Architecture building that began construction earlier last month will be named in recognition of its major donor, PACCAR.

PACCAR, a company that manufactures medium to heavy-duty trucks, donated an undisclosed amount to make the building possible.

“It fits well with our industry leadership and emphasis on technology,” said Ken Hastings, vice president and general manager of the PACCAR Foundation. “It fits very well with our brand image; a core value of ours is protecting the environment.”

The new clean technology building will be constructed with renewable materials and technologies developed at WSU with the goal of achieving Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.

PACCAR and the university are in agreement not to disclose the donation amount, Hastings said.

Gil Picciotto, associate vice president of WSU Foundation, said the general naming policy from a development perspective is 50 percent of the cost for the building.
