Wawawai Road closes for repaving

Residents can reroute through the Big Sky subdivision

A section of Wawawai Road could be closed through the end of the week due to a paving project.

Road work will start today with the resurfacing of the pavement between Marcia Drive and Wheat Ridge Drive, said Kevin Gardes, public works director for the city of Pullman.

After the road is resurfaced there will be some grading work on the rock shoulder before the road crew finishes the project by striping the pavement.

The main focus of the project is to fix potholes along Wawawai Road, Gardes said, which have become such a problem that resurfacing the road is necessary.

“It had major potholes in the wheel track, so it was constant maintenance for us,” he said.

After the project is done Gardes said residents will see improved road access.

He said they have notified those living in the areas and have worked on finding alternate routes.

Residents can also work around the pavement project, he said, and there will be access through the Big Sky subdivision.

There was talk of resurfacing the road last year as an emergency measure, but the city decided to wait and resurface it now.

Gardes did not have an exact date on the completion of this project but said it should be done by the end of the week.
