Man banned from WSU campus arrested

From staff reports

Previously arrested for threatening gang violence against police officers, one man was arrested for first-degree criminal trespassing Feb. 10 after he was reported to have unlawfully entered Streit Hall.

Campus police arrived to the scene where Joel A. Villela, 18, was seen inside a room within a month from being served papers prohibiting him from entering school property.

Villela was previously arrested in Pullman for a DUI and threatening gang violence against two police officers in October 2013.  This event was caught on tape by surveillance cameras, WSU Police Department Assistant Chief Steve Hansen said.

Police served Villela papers in late January that prohibited him from entering school property due to the previous arrest.

A staff member at the Streit Hall reported Villela around 9 p.m. on Monday to campus police after believing to have recognized his face from a photograph, Hansen said.

Police arrested him that night.
