GPSA candidates revealed; uncontested presidential race

The Graduate and Professional Student Association released the candidates running for the 2017-18 general elections on Thursday, revealing an uncontested presidential race.

Running for GPSA president is Shane Reynolds, a Ph.D. candidate in chemical engineering. Running along Reynolds for the position of vice president is Amir Gilmore, a Ph.D. student in cultural studies and social thought in education.

Reynolds will work closely with Health & Wellness to ensure WSU students have the best healthcare plan available, as well as maintain GPSA services like evening childcare and travel grants, according to his candidate statement.

Reynolds previously served on the Office of Student Conduct Blue Ribbon Panel and is currently the GPSA director of university affairs.

Gilmore plans to work to improve graduate student representation at WSU and give graduate students a voice, according to his candidate statement.

Gilmore previously served as a GPSA senator and college representative, and currently serves as GPSA director of programming.

Debates for the GPSA president, vice president and college of representatives will take place at 5:30 p.m. on March 6 in CUB 212.

Voting for general elections will begin at 7 p.m. on March 6 and end 5 p.m. on March 9.
