Man arrested for attempted burglary in Colfax

An intoxicated man allegedly rummaged through a vehicle, burglarized an outbuilding and attempted to burglarize a homeowner’s residence by forcibly kicking on the front door in Colfax on Saturday evening, according to a Whitman County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Deputies responded and contacted the driver, 49-year-old Clackamas, Oregon, resident William E. Williams, who told deputies he was at the residence to look at the homeowner’s goats, according to the release.

Deputies contacted the homeowner to determine his crimes and Williams was taken into custody based on the allegations, according the release. In the process, deputies found several ounces of methamphetamine in his possession.

According to the release, Williams was booked into the Whitman County Jail on charges of attempted residential burglary, second degree burglary, second degree trespassing, second vehicle prowl and possession of a controlled substance.
