From staff reports

WSU’s spring enrollment increased by two percent from last spring, as the university registered 28,240 students across all campuses, making it the school’s highest spring semester enrollment, according to a WSU news release.

Enrollment increased across nearly all WSU campuses, with Tri-Cities seeing the largest growth at 1,825 students, an increase of 20.9 percent from the 2016 spring semester. WSU Everett, the newest campus, enrolled 187 new students, increasing more than 19 percent from the previous spring semester, according to the news release.

Freshman enrollment decreased less than one percent from last year and graduate student enrollment decreased 1.6 percent. Transfer student and professional student enrollment both increased. Professional students, including veterinary and pharmacy students, increased 5.6 percent across campuses, according to the release.

Minority student enrollment across all campuses increased to 28.8 percent, up from 27.6 percent in spring 2016, while first-generation students represent 33.9 percent of all WSU students for spring semester, according to the release.

As in previous years, more than 80 percent of all WSU students are Washington residents, according to the WSU news release.
