Mental health expert to speak in Todd

An expert on mental health awareness will speak today at 6:30 pm in Todd 110 as part of Mental Health Awareness Week.

Hakeem Rahim was first diagnosed with bipolar disorder while attending Harvard, and ended up getting a bachelor’s degree in psychology. After that, he went onto receive a dual master’s degree from Columbia University.

Rahim was the first African-American valedictorian in his high school’s history, and he has since started a foundation to provide financial and creative support for programs otherwise not accessible to their students.

Rahim is a national board member of the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance. He is a National Alliance of Mental Illnesses certified speaker, and his speech today is part of his #IAmAcceptance tour to more than 36 colleges. Earlier this week, he gave a speech at the University of Idaho.

Rahim is the CEO of I Am Acceptance, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring mental illness support for all. His speech will be about mental health and strategies to lead the best life as a college student, according to the ASWSU page about the event.
