Mayor Glenn Johnson presents his 2017 Budget Message during the City Council Meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 1.

The Pullman City Council discussed the proposed budget for the upcoming year of 2017 at the meeting on Tuesday.

Representatives from all of the city departments were allotted time during the meeting to explain any requested budget increase within their department.

The proposed budget for 2017 will include a general fund of $21,693,172, increasing 6.4 percent from 2016, Mayor Glenn Johnson said during the meeting. The 2017 year-end reserve is projected to be 16 percent of the 2017 operating budget, he said.

Several resolutions involving tax levies were passed with no opposition during the meeting.

Leann Hubbard, the Pullman finance director and city clerk, read off the information about these resolutions and ordinances. She said these tax levies were crucial to sustain a balanced budget.

The final resolution granted the Fire Services department the ability to obtain self-contained breathing apparatus equipment to replace their current tanks, which have exceeded their 15-year warranty.
