WSU Police Department debunks clown reports

The WSU Police Department has found reports of clown sightings on Sunday night to be false, according to WSU Assistant Police Chief Steve Hansen.

He said multiple people reported sightings of clowns, some with knives and chain saws. Many officers searched for the clowns and two police cars staked out the Streit/Perham residence hall, but they found none.

Instead, they found vans driving around campus looking for the clowns. However, two girls at Emerald Downs witnessed a clown.

Senior English major Sheltyn Rose and her friend saw a clown come out of an apartment around 9:30 p.m. and chase a man through the hills.

They assumed the clown and the man were friends, however, considering the laughter from others in the apartment.

Despite this, Rose said the incident was “definitely sketchy.” This followed a series of reported clown sightings across the nation, and most recently in Washington.

According to King5 News, a man spotted a clown Sunday night in Tacoma, while another was spotted in Lynwood around the same time.
