Furniture set on fire on College Hill after Cougars win Saturday

From staff reports

For the second week in a row, someone set arson fires to furniture Saturday night in addition to a dorm fire early Monday morning.

Pullman Police Operations Cmdr. Chris Tennant said someone set fire to two couches and several chairs around 11 p.m. Saturday. The fires were in the middle of the streets of Maple, Monroe and Alpha Road on College Hill. A similar incident occurred the previous Saturday with five fires in the same area around the same time.

He said he assumes these fires were due to a “signature celebration” after Cougar football games.

The last three football games have resulted in victories for the Cougars.

Pullman Police have no leads in investigating the cases and ask anyone with information to contact them.

In an unrelated incident, WSU Police responded to a fire alarm on the ninth floor of Rogers Hall in another case of arson around 5:30 a.m. Monday, according to Pullman Radio News.

Crews found water flowing from a sprinkler inside the men’s bathroom that had put out a paper towel dispenser fire, according to Pullman Radio News.

The residence hall was evacuated to nearby Stephenson Hall.

WSU Police are investigating the case and ask anyone with information to contact them.
