WSU kicks off work for national solar home competition
September 7, 2016
Students from various WSU majors will hold a kickoff meeting today for the Solar Decathlon, in which they will compete with 14 other collegiate teams across the country to design and build a solar home.
The competition, hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy, will involve students creating solar-powered homes adapted to their regions. WSU is the only competing university from the Pacific Northwest, according to a news release.
The teams started designing and building their homes on Aug. 24, and have until the competition on Oct. 5, 2017, in Denver to complete them, according to a Department of Energy news release.
The team will meet today in PACCAR 107 at 5 p.m. There will be similar events throughout the year to keep people involved in the team’s creative journey. The project leader is Timothy Goheen, a research assistant in the School of Design and Construction.
