Cougs end first round of Pac-12 Championships in seventh place

The WSU women’s golf team is tied for seventh place with No.12 Stanford after 18 holes of the Pac-12 Championships at the Ruby Hills Golf Course in Pleasanton, California.

The Cougars collectively scored a 287 for a one-under par total.

The championships showcase 11 of the Pac-12 teams, nine of which are ranked in the national top 25.

The Cougars lead No.13 Washington, which closed out the round at +1 (289). Following the Huskies was Oregon State at 292 (+4).

No. 2 USC dominated Round 1of the championship, -10 (278). The Trojans made four fewer strokes than UCLA, which finished the day in second.

Individually, WSU sophomore Alivia Brown and junior Cherokee Kim both shot 70s (-2), tying them for fifth with nine other players. Four of the golfers they are tied with are nationally ranked, including No.1 Bronte Law from UCLA.

Senior Nani Yanagi is tied for 32nd after shooting a 73 (+1). One stroke behind her was senior teammate Monica Huang. Sophomore Bree Wanderscheid shot +9 (81) and is tied for 55th.

Leading the pack is Arizona’s Haley Moore, who shot a 66 (-6) after 18 holes.

The Pac-12 Championships continue at 8:30 a.m. today with another 18 holes, and the three-round tournament will conclude Wednesday. Live updates can be found on golfstat.com.
