Tennis’ Miksovska ties WSU freshman record at Pac-12 Championships

From staff reports

Freshman Aneta Miksovska tied the WSU freshman record for single-season wins on Saturday.

Miksovska defeated Stephane Lin from the University of California, 6-2, 6-3 before she lost in her second singles match of the day. Maria Smith avenged Lin’s defeat and beat Miksovska, 6-4, 7-6 (1).

Although Miksovska was knocked out of the Singles Invitational bracket, she continued her run in the Doubles Invitational bracket with fellow freshman Barbora Michalkova.

After they won in the round of 16 and the quarterfinals, they faced Arizona State’s Samantha Hampton and Kassidy Jump.

Miksovska had previously faced Hampton and Jump at the start of the month when she and Maria Biryukova lost 6-3. Paired with Michalkova the two freshman put up a fight but were ultimately outmatched by Hampton and Jump.

Miksovska and Michalkova lost to the No. 2 seed in the tournament, 6-3.
